In a city known for food and hospitality, this place stands out for both. The interior is warm, inviting, and chic. And the service here is UNREAL. They manage to make you feel welcome and appreciated without being the least bit fussy. You can tell the employees genuinely love where they work and what they do. We randomly met 2 waiters at a bar the night before, and they absolutely insisted we come to Atchafalaya the next night for dinner. Man, am I glad we did. Special shout out to HD and Harold for being true ambassadors of everything great about the New Orleans restaurant scene, and New Orleans in general. They are truly gems; I hope the owners know what they have with these two. On to the food...

Out waitress's first suggetion, which was basically a polite command, was "You need to get the char-grilled oyster starter." We did, and after 1 bite, we followed her advise to the letter for the rest of the evening.
-Fried green tomatoes with crawfish tails
-Blue crab raviolo (maybe the most perfect dish on the menu?)
-Brussels sprouts with miso-honey
-Gulf fish with smoked tomatoes
-Duck confit
-Braised greens (ok, this was the most perfect dish on the menu)
-Tres Leches bread pudding (sweet mother of god)
-Blue Cheese Flan!!!! What? How and why was this the best flan of my life??

Did we order too much food? Absolutely. Did we regret any of it? Absolutely not.

A waiter that wasn't ours passed by our table, commented on our drinks, asked about our food order, suggested an Albarino wine, and it was perfect.

We spent 4 days eating, drinking, and dancing our way through New Orleans. Hand down, Atchafalaya was our best meal.

Such a memorable brunch with friends from Australia. Nice jazz music in the background, scrumptious food and drinks and wonderful service by Chris! The best shrimp and grits I have ever had!!! We also had the tomato and peach salad, chicken and sausage gumbo, smoked salmon on brioche and huevos ranchero :)

My wife and I went to this restaurant during our first trip to New Orleans after it was recommended by a co-worker. It absolutely lived up to the hype. We were genuinely surprised by how much flavor they packed into every dish. Everything we tried was delicious, well-prepared, and memorable. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

We were there for my wife's birthday. 5 people. Clay was our waiter. Everything was perfect from the time we walked in. Everyone was so nice. Atmosphere is cozy and quiet, even though the restaurant was full. Service was top drawer ! Food flavors were exceptional. I cannot recommend this place enough !

Flavorful foods and attentive service. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Only thing is that there is a surcharge of 3% for using credit card. I wish they said that before giving us the bill.

This is our second time at Atchafalaya while traveling through town and it solidified itself as one of our favorite restaurants. Everything we have eaten has been just perfect. The cornbread muffins are served pillowy and warm with whipped butter just the right amount of sweet and salty. The peach tomato salad was so refreshing and flavorful. The shrimp and grits is deep in flavor, hearty in texture. The African pompano fish special was such a perfect light summer meal. And damn, that chocolate brownie will haunt me for life.

As someone who has worked in elevated dining for over 25 years, I honestly am often let down by service not really meeting even an adequate standard. However, our server, Clay, really showed up for us and matched his service with the quality of the food. He was just present enough without hovering. He remembered every little particular request we had (and we admittedly had a few) and would take a moment to apologize or check in if things were taking even slightly longer than one might expect.

We don’t eat out often these days as it’s often just not worth the money… Atchafalaya is worth every penny.

Thank you so much Clay and all the wonderful folks in the kitchen at Atchafalaya. Y’all are making nice-dinner-out dreams come true.
