Love Cafe Mars! The atmosphere inside is as unique and fun as any restaurant you’ll ever find in Brooklyn, but so is their food. And it’s not a gimmick, the food is straight up delicious. The garlic knot monkey bread is craveable and the muffuletta dim sum is one of my favorite apps in NYC. They have a good rotation of pasta and mains, all of which are fun and tasty. Service is always very good, when you arrive you get to choose a fun tiki glass out of a chest and they give you a free round of prosecco. And is it mozzarella time?! It might be! Overall, Cafe Mars is one of my favorite dining experiences in Brooklyn.

Had an amazing dinner at Cafe Mars last night. The atmosphere was fun and inviting. The service was exceptional, and every dish (including the cocktails) brought flavor combinations that were both creative and perfectly balanced. Tofu time was a nice surprise, and looking forward to mozzarella time on the next visit. The panna cotta dessert with sudachi ice, fresh strawberries, and a kinako cookie was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. Yum. Cafe Mars is more than a great restaurant; it is an experience. Highly recommend.

I wrote a feature about this place a year and a half ago for the Park Slope reader but I came back for dinner this evening to try out their May Izakaya menu. I felt compelled to write another review on here because they clearly deserve the praise. I’m just so impressed with the attention to detail and the consistency. The food here is always really unique. They call themselves an unusual Italian restaurant, but that’s the understatement of the century. Everything on the menu is always so unique and changing. And they always have interesting stories behind the dishes. The Izakaya is just the latest fun iteration on there Ever evolving menu. The owner is super nice and highly engaged in the dining service, and the staff are all highly knowledgeable and professional. Really hope this place sticks around for the long run because there’s nothing else like it in the neighborhood or even in the city.

Everything was great, and appreciated the friendly service. Highly recommend checking this place out. + Fires of Vesuvius was our favorite cocktail. Strong flavor and great spice level. + Enjoyed the crudo. It was light and fresh, packed with flavor. + Monkey bread seems popular, so I don't have much to add. I will say, it was larger than expected and pretty filling! + Definitely preferred the riggies over the rotalini. I just don't think we had the palate for the broccoli rabe. + Panna cotta had three or four layers, so satisfying to take a spoonful. + Baba-yaki was interesting. Great texture, and fun to eat. I don't think I ever tried amaro. It was definitely an adjustment. Overall, it was a lovely and creative experience, with lots of little surprises throughout the evening.

Cafe Mars is one of the most creative dining experiences I’ve had in Brooklyn. The gel olives were super unique a really fun, flavorful dish that shows how playful their menu is. The anchovies with the pizza seasoning were also surprisingly good, packed with flavor and a perfect bite. I tried the Riggies, which is originally an Ithaca, New York dish that’s normally made with chicken, but here they do a version with mussels. It ended up being really good and full of flavor definitely worth ordering if you want something different. The decor is beautiful, with a cool, modern vibe, and the service is extremely friendly and attentive. Overall, a great spot if you’re looking for something creative and memorable in Gowanus.
