Wow. This is my first Michelin star restaurant and I was blown away. Each dish was so carefully thought out and perfectly prepared. I had the non alcoholic beverage pairing and I was stunned with how amazing the drinks were and how they went so well with each course. Dinner was $$$$ but so worth it.

I was really looking forward to dining at Dakar, but unfortunately the service did not match the experience I expected. Our reservation was at 8:00 PM, and our first course didn’t arrive until around 9:00 PM. Meanwhile, other tables were already on their second course, which made the pacing feel off and honestly a bit uncomfortable. Our table was looking around to see when our food wasn’t coming. We ended up being the first table seated but the last to actually eat, which didn’t make sense. The non-alcoholic drink pairings were also a letdown. They didn’t complement the food in the way I anticipated. The first two tasted like hotel lobby fruit infused water instead of thoughtfully curated pairings. One of the more frustrating parts of the night was around the lobster add-on. When we first sat down (before our full party arrived), the waiter mentioned it and said it was enough for two. However, once everyone got there, it was never brought up again, and we weren’t given another opportunity to order it even though we would have. We were seated at a community table with people we didn’t know. Which was fine & expected. I also can’t ignore that we were the only Black table in the space, seated at a community table, and our experience felt noticeably different in terms of timing and attention. To be clear, the food itself wasn’t bad, but the service and overall experience left a lot to be desired especially for a restaurant at this level. The black eye pea soup was delicious and something I would order as a stand alone item. No other course was memorable from last night’s dinner.

We sat at the communal table, and got along well with the group. I tried a couple of the non alcoholic drinks and they were good. The food was spectacular, and each course only got better. I was most impressed by the tuna dish as well as the dish with fish, rice, peanut sauce, and hot sauce. There was a very long gap between courses, not sure if that was intentional or not, because the entire experience took about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Towards the end, the chef came out and personally spoke to each table and took pictures, which I really appreciated. Overall, this was a great experience, and I’d recommend it.

I’ve been wanting to make it out to Dakar Nola for a while and finally made it happen and glad to say it did not disappoint. Every dish was super flavorful and did a great job of demonstrating the connection between African and New Orleans/Louisiana cuisine. The atmosphere is formal without being pretentious with an overall great team that seemed to work together well to take care of each guest. Was it expensive…sure…but I’d argue the quality of the ingredients and care put into the food made it worth it. Overall great experience and I can’t wait to come back and try it again!!

Had an amazing dinner at Dakar NOLA, the hype around this restaurant is real! Being of West African origin, I am very familiar with a lot of the ingredients used in food preparation. The recipes are ingenious, the food presentation and wine pairing were fabulous. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. This was a gastronomical experience not soon to be forgotten. Be aware that you need to arrive on time. Everyone in the restaurant is served each course at the same time.
