I have to say, I was a bit underwhelmed. This was my first time eating here, and I will give it another try, but i definitely won't be ordering the same items as this visit. The saving grace for me was definitely the wait staff, all smiles, honest reviews of the food, and helpful up until the last minute. The food: The deviled eggs were great, but making deviled eggs isn't rocket science, but you get 3 halves, odd... why not 4? cutting an egg in half yields two halves. The Matzo Ball soup - In my mind, a travesty, quite possibly the worst I've ever had. It was so over complicated, I didn't / nor couldn't finish the broth. Matzo Ball soup excels in it's simplicity, and in all my years of Passover, that was the soggiest Matzo Ball ever. Lastly, one ball in a bowl of soup? A cup I could understand. My thought was if there is one, it had better be epic. This wasn't epic. I couldn't decide on a entree, so I ordered two. The Pork Chop and as a reminder of my childhood, the London Broil. I couldn't remember the last time I had London Broil. The London Broil was very tasty, yet not exactly Hot. From other reviews it seems like keeping food hot is an ongoing issue, and with the Pork taking the longest, the LB suffered a bit. The Spinach looked very unappetizing, to me green beans would have been a better pairing. The Pork Chop was a bit fatty for my liking, and the sides confused me. Sweet Snow Peas, I was not expecting that. Though the cook on the pork was solid. Lastly the Ice Cream Sundae, very tasty and probably my own fault very messy. Hot fudge is made in house, and it tastes different, but a good different. My date got the Sea Bass, and Kale with Parmesan. The Kale looked odd to me, but she enjoyed it. Overall it got a B-/C+ but i'll give it another shot, and I'm told the burger is solid, and the ribs. Eating out is one of my favorite activities, but this is the first time in a long time I have gone to a new place in SF.

This place is great! Everyone is warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, and knowing that the restaurant supports the Delancey Street Foundation and helps people rebuild their lives makes the experience even more meaningful 😊😊

I went to Delancey Street Restaurant with my friend, and we’re both in ninth grade. The food was amazing and surprisingly affordable, which we really appreciated. However, the atmosphere made us feel uncomfortable from the moment we walked in. We were stared at in silence, and it immediately felt like we didn’t really belong there. Our waiter was polite and respectful, but many of the other staff members seemed tense, quiet, or unsure how to interact with us. Throughout the meal, we kept getting looks that added to the awkward vibe. It wasn’t aggressive, just not welcoming. I respect the mission of the restaurant and think the food is genuinely great, but based on our visit, the service and atmosphere could be much more warm and inviting, especially for younger customers.

I had lunch with my family last Tuesday, 25 years after my last visit when I lived in the area. The food was outstanding, a lovely Reuben sandwich and fried buttermilk chicken burger. We really appreciated Michael’s great service, conversation and his interest in our travels from Australia. We finished off with a Herbie’s chocolate sundae, which was fantastic! A great story, great food and great atmosphere. A must visit for anyone travelling to San Francisco.
