This is a great place to stay in the capital. Great location, clean beautiful rooms and lobby. Everything about this hotel is high quality.

nice place, pretty convenient location, most restaurants are a short to medium walk away. staff on the mvc floor were really helpful, those on the main floor (where you check in) were hit and miss. great historic building.

We came here for a “staycation” for my birthday weekend and were kind of underwhelmed. First the pros: the lobby is gorgeous, the rooms were nice, and the location is good for walking to local attractions. The service was not what we expected for this level of a Marriott hotel. The people who worked there only seemed to want to talk to us if we were interested in a timeshare presentation. They were super pushy about that and even called us at 6:10 pm in the room as we were out the door to try to sell us a second stay, which I’ve never encountered at a hotel and felt tacky. When we made it clear we weren’t interested in a timeshare then we got negative attitudes from the employees. We are platinum Marriott Bonvoy members and put on the reservation it was for my birthday but we got zero acknowledgement of that or any kind of welcome gift. The snacks that come in the “lounge” (it’s just a hallway outside the elevator) were very mediocre - jalapeño chips (which seems like a weird flavor to have?), no name brand trail mix, and some chocolates. The hotel restaurant was abysmal but I put that in a separate review. Also, there was a very loud prom and wedding going on which we were not told about when we booked the reservation, otherwise we would’ve booked elsewhere. Overall I’m very saddened that this experience did not live up to the historic lore of the Mayflower Hotel.

The Mayflower hotel is superb but the vacation club presentation is sub par. We sat through two hours of jumping all over the place while numbers just collaged into the abyss. It didn't seem like a good deal at all.

The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC—now the Mayflower by Marriott—stands as a timeless symbol of elegance, history, and political intrigue. Opened in 1925, the hotel was envisioned as the city’s grand social center, welcoming presidents, dignitaries, artists, and visionaries through its ornate doors. Its Beaux-Arts architecture, inspired by European palaces, reflects an era when craftsmanship and grandeur defined American ambition. Often called the “Grande Dame of Washington,” the Mayflower has been woven into the nation’s political fabric. It has hosted countless inaugural balls, historic meetings, and confidential conversations that helped shape U.S. history. Presidents from Calvin Coolidge to modern leaders have stayed within its walls, and it was here that Franklin D. Roosevelt reportedly prepared his first inaugural address. Beyond politics, the Mayflower has been a cultural crossroads—hosting Hollywood stars, royalty, and world travelers seeking refinement and comfort. Its richly decorated ballrooms, crystal chandeliers, and classic hospitality evoke a sense of living history. Today, while embracing modern luxury, the Mayflower preserves its legacy with grace. To step inside is to walk through a century of stories, where past and present meet in quiet sophistication.
