We dined at Ristorante Per L’Ora in downtown Los Angeles and were immediately struck by the elegant, airy space inside the Hotel Per La. The room feels grand yet intimate, with high ceilings, Italian‑inspired design, and a refined but relaxed atmosphere perfect for both dates and business dinners. The menu mingles coastal Italian flavors with a California spin. Standouts include the focaccia with rosemary and Parmesan, the orecchiette birria with guajillo‑chile ragù, and bright dishes like the endive salad and seafood‑forward pastas. The food is very fresh and well‑executed, though a few items feel a bit rich or heavy if you order too many main courses. Service is professional and attentive, and the vibe is polished without being stuffy. It’s a great choice if you’re staying downtown or looking for an elevated Italian meal with LA flair.

I’m writing this review from the perspective of someone with a severe food allergy who dined at this restaurant during Dine LA Restaurant Week. Unfortunately, the experience was genuinely frightening. My allergy was clearly disclosed before ordering, yet during the meal I began to experience a reaction. My throat started to feel tight, and it quickly became clear that something I was served was not safe for me. As a result, our group had to leave immediately out of concern for my health. That alone made the experience distressing, but what followed was even more troubling. Because of the allergy incident and how it was handled, our group left no tip, and this was communicated at the time. Despite this, the cardholder later discovered that an additional tip had been added without permission, only visible after checking a bank statement days later. We returned to the restaurant to raise this concern directly, hoping for accountability or at least a serious response. Instead, the issue was brushed off with a casual “it was a mistake,” which felt dismissive given the health scare involved. For anyone with food allergies, trust and care are essential. This experience showed a lack of both, and I would strongly caution others with dietary restrictions to be very careful.

We dined at La Perla Ristorante during the Dine LA Restaurant Week experience while celebrating an anniversary, and the evening unfortunately took a very serious turn. The food quality was very subpar. The starters were overly salty, the meat courses were overcooked, and overall the dishes lacked the level of care and execution one would expect from an upscale Italian restaurant - particularly during a Dine LA menu that is meant to showcase the kitchen at its best. More concerning was how a severe allergy was handled. We informed the staff in advance of this allergy, yet a member of our group experienced a reaction during the meal. This was extremely distressing and caused us to leave promptly for health and safety reasons. Given the circumstances, we left a $0 tip, which was communicated at the time and directly related to the allergy incident and how it was handled - not out of negligence or bad faith. Two days later, after checking my bank statement, I discovered that an additional ~$40 tip had been added without my consent or prior disclosure, despite the fact that no tip had been left due to the incident. This was never communicated at the time of payment and removed any opportunity to address it in the moment. In an effort to resolve this directly and in good faith, we returned to the restaurant to give management an opportunity to address the situation and explain this billing practice. The response we received was simply, “Oops, it was a mistake,” with no further explanation, accountability, or meaningful attempt to address the seriousness of the issue. Given the circumstances-an allergy-related incident and an unauthorized charge-we expected a far more thoughtful and responsible response. We expect transparency in billing, serious handling of food allergies, and a higher standard of accountability from an upscale restaurant, especially during a featured dining event. Experiences like this erode trust, and we hope management takes this feedback seriously and reviews both their service and billing practices moving forward.

What a great atmosphere! The drinks were very well made although their bourbon lineup needs some elevation to match the artful decor and attentive service. The four course tasting menu was perfectly portioned, delightfully presented and most importantly, delectable to our taste buds. I would definitively bring friends back when visiting again.

Taste :4.0/5 Environment: 4.8/5 Service:4.2/5 A little slice of Europe… in LA. Ristorante Per L’Ora might just be the city’s coziest hidden gem. 🌿 Simple menu Cozy vibes tucked inside a pet-friendly hotel. 🪞 Interiors that make you forget you’re in DTLA. The brunch menu is simple but you will still enjoy the cozy vibe Parking is a bit challenging but they offer valet but it’s kind of expensive than other place
